Executive Director
Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the strategic leader of Grandparents As Parents (GAP), responsible for advancing the organization’s mission to
support and strengthen Grandfamilies and Kinship Caregivers across North Alabama and beyond.
This role oversees all aspects of operations, program delivery, partnerships, fundraising, and organizational growth, with a strong emphasis on scaling GAP’s “One-Stop Shop” model into a regional and statewide resource hub.
The ED reports to the Board of Directors and works closely with community partners, funders, and volunteers to ensure measurable impact for the ~100,000 Grandfamilies in North Alabama.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Vision:
- Execute and refine GAP’s strategic plan for regional and statewide expansion
- Lead implementation of the Kinship First / One-Stop Shop model
- Position GAP as a leading voice in Kinship Care across Alabama
- Support board development, engagement, and governance
- Program Oversight & Impact
- Oversee all GAP programs, including resource distribution, Christmas for Kin, support groups, and referral services
- Ensure programs are data-driven using platforms like Salesforce & Charity Tracker
- Establish measurable outcomes and reporting systems
- Fundraising & Resource Development
- Lead fundraising efforts including grants, corporate partnerships, and individual donors and philanthropists
- Develop and execute annual fundraising strategy
- Serve as lead storyteller and ambassador
- Operations & Organizational Management
- Oversee daily operations of the One-Stop Shop facility
- Build and manage staff
- Develop policies and ensure financial stewardship
- Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Serve as primary public representative
- Strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders
- Expand statewide collaborations and partnerships
- Advocacy & Public Policy
- Represent GAP in advocacy efforts
- Promote kinship-supportive policies
- Align work with Kinship First initiatives
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree (relevant field preferred)
- 3+ years leadership experience
- Fundraising and grant-writing experience
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred: - Experience in Kinship Care or family services
- Knowledge of Alabama Child Welfare systems
- Experience scaling organizations

- Full-time position (initially based on grant funding from the Alabama Opioid Commission)

Opioid Support Coordinator
This is a grant-supported position based on grant availability and award.
Position Summary
The Opioid Support Coordinator leads the implementation and expansion of opioid settlement–funded initiatives at GAP, ensuring that Grandfamilies and Kinship Caregivers impacted by substance use disorder receive timely, coordinated, and effective support services. This role translates funding into measurable outcomes through direct service coordination, partnerships, and data-driven program management across North Alabama with scalability statewide.
- Program Leadership & Implementation
- Lead opioid-related recovery support programs
- Execute program expansion aligned with Grandparents as Parents and Opioid Settlement priorities
- Develop workflows for intake, eligibility, and navigation
- Develop a section of our website, http://www.gapalabama.org, for timely opioid updates
- Caregiver & Family Support
- Coordinate direct support, crisis response, and referrals
- Facilitate peer groups, trainings, and events
- Connect families to treatment and recovery resources
- Partnership Development
- Build partnerships with AAAs, DHR, healthcare, and community orgs
- Serve as liaison for opioid collaborations
- Support statewide expansion model
- Grant Compliance
- Ensure compliance with funding requirements
- Track budgets and reporting
- Produce outcome reports

Preferred Qualifications - Experience in social services or public health
- Knowledge of opioid epidemic in Alabama
- Grant program experience
